Your carrier
A licensed Indian telecom provider gives you the SIP trunk, the phone numbers and the per-minute tariff. You pay them directly.
Voice AI platforms such as Vapi can work with a SIP trunk you bring, known as BYOC (bring your own carrier). In India the trunk and numbers must come from a licensed telecom provider. This guide covers what to buy, how calls reach the AI, and what to agree before the first call.
With BYOC you keep the telecom contract. The AI platform does not sell you minutes; it connects to your trunk and handles the conversation.

Software that terminates the SIP calls, streams audio to speech recognition and the AI model, plays the reply and records the call.
The conversation itself: understanding the caller, deciding what to do, calling your systems and handing over to a person when needed.
Ask for a SIP trunk with the channel count you need for concurrent calls, and numbers for inbound and outbound calling. Agree how the trunk is delivered: over the internet with authentication, or a dedicated link to your cloud.
Inbound calls are routed to the SIP endpoint of the voice platform; outbound calls are placed through the trunk. Allow-listed IPs, codecs and caller ID are agreed with the provider.
Commercial calls in India fall under TRAI's rules on consent, Do Not Disturb preferences and calling numbers. Settle these with your provider and your compliance team before the first campaign. Then run test calls for audio quality and latency on real mobile networks, and raise concurrency as the trunk allows.
We do not sell or resell telecom minutes. Our BYOC Voice API connects to your SIP trunks and direct interconnects, routes and streams the audio in real time, records calls and lets you plug in speech engines. You pay your telco exactly what your minutes cost.

No. Trunks and numbers come from your licensed telecom provider, billed at their tariff. We provide the software that connects them to voice AI, and can suggest providers on request.
Usually yes, if the provider can route calls to an external SIP endpoint and allows the concurrency you need. Check the channel count, codecs and how the trunk is delivered.
You keep your existing telecom contracts and pricing, your numbers stay yours, and the arrangement fits data-localisation and compliance requirements more easily.
Yes. Web and app conversations run over WebRTC and need no SIP trunk or telecom charge.
